WATER/WASTEWATER SYSTEMS OPERATOR I or II
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Under supervision of the Public Works Foreman and Water/Wastewater Leadworker, performs work in the operation, maintenance, and construction of water system and wastewater treatment and collection facilities; repair of water meters, well pumps, well motors, and other types of water equipment and devices; drives trucks and operates equipment; lubricates and fuels equipment. DUTIES: Essential Duties Are: Operates medium and heavy equipment in the operation, maintenance, and construction of the water/wastewater system; hauls and disposes sludge; mows grass; monitors equipment for maintenance and repair needs, and schedules work with the maintenance department; assists others in maintenance of pumps, motors, and controls; checks dispenser and adds chlorine to well discharge system and adjusts dosage; clears and cleans sewers by flushing or rodding; assists in repairing and installing water/wastewater mains; assists in process monitoring through sample collecting and sample analysis; assists in repair of piping; paints; performs building maintenance; operates sprinkler systems; performs minor carpentry work in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities; reads water and electric meters; may require odd hours of work. Other Duties Include: Assists other departments as necessary; performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the methods, equipment, materials, and tools used in the repair of water/wastewater facilities and meters; ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and to occasionally lift 100 pounds; ability to climb, stand, kneel, reach, pull, push, stand, walk, and perform other similar body movements; hand/eye/foot coordination for driving truck and working with controls in water/wastewater facilities; ability to hear and talk in person and by telephone and radio, and to hear vibrations and malfunctions of equipment; ability to inspect and diagnose maintenance and repair needs; ability to maintain records and make reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Diesel Mechanic/ Power Plant Operator 1

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Under direct supervision of a Power Plant Operator or Maintenance Mechanic, assists and trains in the operation and maintenance of gas/oil diesel powered electric generating plant. DUTIES: Essential Duties Are: Assists in operation of the generating plant and switch gear which controls the electric distribution system; reads gauges, meters, charts and instruments, and records readings as required; monitors KW gauges and other instruments and records power being purchased through ties; assists to place generators in service and take them off the line; monitors plant operation and identifies malfunctions and assists in taking corrective action; answers telephone; takes calls regarding service outages and calls line crews; maintains a number of records regarding plant operations and power usage; monitors boiler operation; cleans and lubricates equipment; checks oil and water levels and adds as necessary; assists maintenance personnel and operators in overhaul, repair, and maintenance of engines, generators and auxiliary and electrical components; observes journeyman and trains in operation and maintenance of the plant; may serve as relief operator when judged adequately competent to do so; may work rotating shift. QUALIFICATIONS: Mechanical aptitude; some knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment; some knowledge of the hazards of electricity; fuels and mechanical equipment and facilities and the ability to learn safety precautions and procedures; ability to learn the principles and techniques of power plant operations; ability to perform heavy physical manual labor and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds and more frequently approximately 50 pounds; ability to walk, kneel, bend, twist, crawl, push, and to reach and read numerous gauges; ability to climb ladders and work on top of engines; hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate tools and a variety of plant equipment; ability to talk and communicate in person and by telephone and radio; ability to see and read gauges; ability to hear for communication and to detect malfunctions of equipment; ability to take proper corrective actions in shut-downs or emergencies. Park Maintenance
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Under supervision of the Director of Public Works or Parks Lead Worker, performs a wide variety of repair and maintenance of parks and parks facilities; performs minor repairs to buildings and recreation facilities. DUTIES: Essential Duties Are: Waters, mows, weeds, trims, and fertilizes lawn areas; rakes leaves; cleans walks, fields, courts, and other facilities; loads trimmings and trash on trucks; plants, transplants, removes, fertilizes, cultivates, waters, and sprays flowers and shrubs; sprays herbicides for weed control; installs, maintains, paints, and repairs playground, irrigation, and other park equipment; prepares and maintains ballfields and tennis courts; winterizes facilities; picks up paper and debris; operates power mower, edger, and similar equipment; operates trucks, tractors, and vehicles as required; maintains buildings by using a variety of hand tools in semi-skilled work; assists in preparation of annual budgets and current and long-range parks activities. Other Duties Include: Operation of snow plows and performance of work in assisting other departments when needed; performs related duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works or Parks Lead Worker. Sanitation Truck Route Driver I or II
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: A Sanitation Truck Route Driver, plays a vital role in maintaining community cleanliness and sanitation by safely collecting and transporting waste. DUTIES: Essential Duties Are: Safely operating specialized vehicles: Driving and maneuvering garbage trucks through residential and commercial routes, adhering to established schedules and routes. Driving and operating specialty truck in all weather conditions throughout the year. Performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking brakes, lights, mirrors, and ensuring the truck is properly fueled, lubricated, and serviced. Adhering to safety and compliance regulations: Strictly following traffic laws, safety protocols, and company procedures for waste handling, disposal, and vehicle operation. QUALIFICATIONS: Commercial Driver's License (CDL): A valid CDL, typically Class B or higher with appropriate endorsements, is essential for operating heavy vehicles like garbage trucks. Experience in safely operating large vehicles, preferably in waste management or a similar field, but willing to train. The ability to lift and carry heavy objects, work in varying weather conditions, and perform tasks like pushing and pulling objects up to 50 pounds. The ability to follow established routes accurately, perform duties with precision, and pay meticulous attention to safety inspections. The capacity to address unexpected challenges or issues that may arise during waste collection, such as route changes or mechanical problems. Basic knowledge of vehicle components to perform pre-trip inspections and report needed repairs. Trash truck drivers typically work outdoors in various weather conditions. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Colby Police Department is currently seeking applications for the position of Police Officer I or II. We are a growing community in Northwest Kansas along I70 and are looking for motivated individuals who want to serve the community. We are a 24 hour agency with at least two officers on per shift. Duties would include patrol, response to calls for service, and criminal investigations. Applicants must be a US Citizen, twenty-one (21) years of age, and meet the Department standards in the following categories: background investigation, written testing, interviews, psychological test, drug screening and physical agility testing.
