Social Media Policy

The City of Colby's social media accounts are not intended to create any public forum, limited public forum, or any other mechanism whereby the public is authorized to speak. Rather, the City of Colby's social media accounts are intended as a broadcast mechanism to keep the public informed of the official City of Colby business and/or activities. To carry out this intent, commenting on all City of Colby social media shall be disabled effective September 16, 2025. 

In the event that commenting occurs, the City of Colby shall delete any all comments posted, without regard to the content of the message or the identity of the commenting individual or entity. The City of Colby further reserves the right to remove inappropriate comment including comments that: promote or perpetuate hate or discrimination on the basis of any legally protected category or class; contain threatening, profane, obscene, violent, sexual, racially charged (including racial slurs) or any other derogatory language; compromise the safety and security of the public, employees, or elected officials; support or oppose political candidates or ballot proposals; promote illegal activity; violate the intellectual property rights of another person or entity; is blatant spam (including advertising commercial services or products) or is unrelated to the original post; contains random or unintelligible text; or contain posts or links to or otherwise involving malicious software. Any content removed based on the criteria listed above will be referred to appropriate legal personnel, and will include the time, date, and identity of the user, if available. 
Requests for public records can be submitted at City Hall. Questions, comments and reports related to City of Colby social media can be sent to manager@cityofcolbyks.gov.
